The Engel House | 1933
At the corner of Maza and Rothschild streets, was designed by architect Zeev Rechter. The building is a significant landmark in the history of architecture in Israel in general and in Tel Aviv in particular. Rechter, who studied and worked in Paris, implemented The principles of "modern architecture" by the renowned French architect Le Corbusier are: the column floor, free facade, movie windows, free plan and flat roof.
The architectural innovation that Rechter presented in this building - the column floor, soon became a prototype for the Tel Aviv condominium, and served as an inspiration for the local architecture that developed in those years in the city and throughout the country.
Over the years, the condition of the house deteriorated and many changes took place in it - the floor of the columns was sealed, the building was neglected, and became hidden from view.
